26 in all it's glory.

matt just turned 26!
so, here's how we celebrated...

loved on our chunky monkey.
 i made a big breakfast.
(including bacon for the first time. what a disgusting process.)
 delicious carrot cake.
didn't have time to make one this year... but believe me, this sucker was pretty great.
notice the michigan colors?
purposeful.

there he is. the old man.
we also did a lot of other things for his birthday that i didn't document.
like shopping for a new watch!
and pf changs.
oh, and yep. our son wears overalls now.

happy birthday, matt!

catching up.

our life has gotten crazy.
we're moving.
but we don't know where... so we're trying to buy a house
maybe? if we can?
or rent. either way... houses are taking up a lot of time.
plus matt's crazy schedule.
and mine.
and a baby.

so, here are some snapshots from what's been happening in the ebright household.

shrimp scampi.
basically, about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter, along with a clove or two of garlic. saute that and add shrimp, a teaspoon or so of oregano and maybe even 2 teaspoons basil. squirt in a bit of lemon juice, too.
cook it through and add a bunch of cooked pasta.
mix in 1/2 cup parm.
reallllly great!

 quinoa pizza bites.
1/2 c. uncooked quinoa.
1 egg.
1/2 cup mozz
1 teaspoon garlic
1 tablespoon basil (i used freeze dried, which acts like fresh)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
a little salt.
optional ingredients: pepperoni or ham (we used ham.).

cook the quinoa, mix everything together, put into muffin tins and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.

tips: double this. for two people, we were still a bit hungry after. also, make sure to spray the tins--these little guys stick a lot. dip them in pizza sauce, too. yummm.

other things in my life?
this child of mine is growing like crazy. and sharing chairs with bailey the puggle.

measurement, time, and grammar. all the good stuff.

a few first grade things as of late...
gallon man!
to learn liquid measurement... SUCH a great way for students to understand liquid measurement... they loved it!

we do time in lots of different ways.  but this one has a second layer behind that has "5, 10, 15...etc." to represent the minutes--the students really caught on to each number representing 5 minutes with this.

pronoun spring flowers. practicing some of the more common pronouns. we did spring acrostics with these and made a big hallway display!

#matchday13

don't worry about it.
i'm hip.
so i use hashtags.
just kidding.

we had ourselves one exciting day on friday.
match day 2013.

let me explain... match day is when all MD students around the world find out where they "matched" for residency.  meaning they interviewed a bunch of places (hopefully) and the student ranks hospitals and the hospitals rank students. wherever matches--hospital and student--is where you go.

so, on friday we got dressed up and went to motor city casino.
classy, right?
and we were excited...
clover theme. with "W" in each leaf for Wayne State. clever. or clover.
(nice pun, eh?)
the ballroom was all decorated...

and then they do a program at 11--give out awards, share stats about match day this year all over the country... torturing everyone a little bit.

then, someone is assigned to each table to pass out the envelopes. the students stand, we have a toast, and then at noon... they count down from 10.

and then they open the envelopes crazily.
and find out where everyone's going for the next many years.
for us, it's ann arbor.
u of m.
neurologist matt.
one of six.
SO EXCITED.

ah. let the craziness of moving and changing and starting new begin.
a2.
how trendy are we?!

book club.

i want to be in a book club.
sometimes, i can't come up with great books to read.
right now, i'm overwhelmed by great books and less time.
summer, come quickly!

here are the books on my list...
need to finish love does.
(it's incredible. and i'm not done yet.)

then altar ego.
(i've been listening to the sermon series on this. amazing. check it out here.)

then jesus is.

then follow me.

then greater.

then jesus + nothing = everything.

then multiply.

then what we talk about when we talk about god.
(hopefully it's less love wins-ish... no offense.)

man alive.
there are good ones out right now.
if you read some, let me know.
and share them with me.
:)
