ketchup.

really, just catching up. not the condiment.
i've been busy, therefore slacking on the blogging.
but, i've returned for a much-too-long-and-possibly-annoying blog all about FOOD.

i hope you're ready. here we go.

this trash. homemade chipotle chicken panini.
it may not look like much, but this sandwich is incredible, and you should try it.

1. grill chicken in strips with some fresh cilantro (fresh cilantro makes everything better).
2. make homemade chipotle mayo by mixing light miracle whip with chili powder, fresh cilantro again (or parsley), and a little chipotle chili (if you have them).
3. brush the outsides of the bread with olive oil, pile the chipotle mayo on, chicken, pepper jack or monterey jack cheese, more fresh cilantro, and grill that thing.

the results are delectable. i promise.

on to the next food experience...

ZOUP!
(okay. the pictures went in sideways and i couldn't work with them. i feel confident it's user error. just let it go.)

an amazing new restaurant we discovered... just down the road from us! incredible soups, salads, and sandwiches. basically a panera that is somewhat less-chainified. even though i think it's also a chain.
we loved it.
you're looking at delicious vegetable soup and asian salad for me, chicken pot pie soup and steak-and-gorgonzola sandwich for matt. deeeeeeeeeeelish.

next up...

STEAK. that's right... i made steak. for the second time in our marriage. the first was for valentine's day, this one was for... no reason. actually, i got accepted to grad school today, so midway through dinner, we decided that's what we were celebrating.

all i have to say about this: i broiled it in the oven, and though people say it's not juicy that way, it was incredible. just do it right: sear it first, let it sit, etc. it'll work out wonderfully. ours did. with rice pilaf, baguettes, and salad. chaaaa-ching.

and last but not least...

straight-from-korea chopsticks for kids!
they have finger holes and are amazing. i have a few students from korea, and they use these nearly every day for lunch. i love them! i would love to have some and use them for every meal. what a way to make eating even more exciting. and you'd feel like you earn each bite a little more.

that's it. my world this post is food.
appropriate, because i'd say 65% of what matt and i talk about is food. and i'm not ashamed to admit it. we are food lovers through and through.

i'll never be a gleek.

i don't get glee
is it a musical? a show? it just doesn't make sense to me.
i mean, i've only ever watched half of an episode. so maybe i haven't given it a chance.

but a part of me doesn't want to?

what seems like a great show: running wilde.
we watched the premiere... very funny moments. i have high hopes.

we shall see. so far, i think i recommend it.

also: detroit 187 started tonight. who knows. maybe detroit will become famous and popular? or maybe the focus on the murders in detroit will do the opposite. possibly not good publicity.

enough about shows.
adios.

current obsessions.

the following are things i currently am obsessed with:

1. this dog. honestly, i feel like she's my child. it's kind of sad, really. but she's truly adorable. don't lie to yourself. your dog can't be cuter.
2. seinfeld. lately, matt and i have been getting back into it. some episodes are lame, sure, but the bulk of them are hilarious. i own several seasons, but hadn't given it much thought as of late.

3. wedding photography. i end up looking at wedding pictures of people i don't know on facebook, then get super upset when the pictures are blocked. for that reason i don't block my pictures. also: i just gave up and google search photographers now.

4. children when they're upset. a terrible part of me thinks it's adorable when children accidentally hurt themselves and seem to be cured when i kiss my hand and then put the kiss on the hurt part. who knew i had such powers. plus my heart just melts.

5. the new season of shows. office (hopefully it'll be good?). snl. bachelor (holy cow i can't wait for it to start sometime). modern family. excited.

6. the fact that mr. ebright is way cooler than mrs. ebright. this is what my students all told me after he left from visiting today. they were bound to see through me eventually. i'm the geeky one who wants them to love school.

that is all.
enjoy the premiere week.
and envying my dog. (don't worry, she has flaws: she's too fat and tries to lick people's faces).

let the great debate end.

my long debate is over.

should i start a blog? do i lead a semi-interesting life?

i decided the answers to both these questions are no, but i'm doing it anyway.

to start things off: my exciting adventure today... WHOLE FOODS.
we got a gift card (thank you) and i went... and splurged.
i was overwhelmed. samples everywhere. pricey food, but i had a gift card. there was no stopping me.

and then, i was standing next to a wall of dried fruits, when i almost ran into someone.

me: oh, i'm sorry.
him: it's no problem.
me: i'm just SO EXCITED.
him: okay.
me: this place is amazing.
him: okay.

maybe my excitement was ill-placed. i don't think so, though.

the best buy of the day: a liquid, gourmet seasoning for key lime and cilantro shrimp tacos

made them tonight.
quite a delight.

until later, happy 30th birthday, whole foods. grocery shopping will officially never be the same.
