dating.

matt and i have been doing a lot of dating lately.
check it out.
fun random spot in berkley... amazing pizza!
we sat outside... it was like a little garden randomly?
voted best gourmet pizza. we agree.
old fashioned ice cream place post-pizza.
 joy.
oh, and we dated and went registering.
turns out it's kind of overwhelming/stressful... but we battled through.
thanks, 4 hours at buybuybaby, an hour at target, and several hours on amazon. jeez.
another awesome date?
moonrise kingdom at the art theater.
great movie.
yeah, i know.
we're becoming movie snobs.
i don't hate it.

summer fever has officially hit.
and we don't want to do work.
we just want to hang out.
yikes.

end of an era.

an era just ended.
or just a school year.
whatever. i'm not dramatic.

here are some highlights:
i have the students sit in a circle and write kind things about each other, passing papers in a circle. so, so sweet! then, i put them on construction paper and use as part of our "Mrs. Ebright Awards."

(Mrs. Ebright awards is when all the parents/grandparents/siblings come and I give awards and gifts to each student to celebrate the school year!)
 pajama/popcorn/movie day.
pillows, blankets, food, and movies... talk about loving life at school!
a fun gift idea:

i give a gift that has a poem i wrote (i love cheesy poems) along with this:

A hershey kiss to remember you're loved,
Smarties to remember how much of a smarty you are,
A pencil to remember there's always more to learn,
An eraser to remember that it's okay to make mistakes,
And a penny to remember good sense.

I put all the stuff in a bag, attach the poem and this little saying... along with a framed picture of me with each student and a note written on the back of a frame!  it's a great little first grade memory :)

funny date nights.

we've had a lot of fun lately...

first, a concert.
the shins.
twas wonderful!

before the concert, waiting in line...
with mediterranean food.

mine made a terrible mess. on the ground. waiting in line.
disaster zone.

never have i seen so many hipsters in one place.
the concert was incredible!

very dark picture of us, yes.

and then, a gift card date night!
 first, bd's mongolian grill.
perfect situation for a pregnant woman = all you can eat food.
mmhmm.

and then, seeing the intouchables at the art theater in downtown royal oak.
really, really incredible movie.
but funny story: we were the youngest ones there by about 40 years. the couple in front of us literally turned on their hearing aids before the movie started (and the movie was all subtitled, anyway!). then, a phone went off during the movie... the person realized after it was done ringing, said, "i think that's my phone," and proceeded to flip it open and push random buttons. then, in the bathroom there was a giant line of older women, only to find out that they weren't aware there were two lines of bathroom stalls.

great movie, great situation. haa.

unrelated, but some cute baby boy things from lately...
baby toms! hello, this is my dream come true!

and baby boy doctor. haa!

before telling my students, we graphed the guesses...

and on the count of three, we all bit in!

i will officially be entering a world of legos, star wars, and sports.
let the fun begin.

loving the last few days...

well, in class we've been busy loving the last days.

check it out!
super fun dice activity i created (or so i think?): give each student two dice and a partner.  partner with longer hair rolls first and makes a double digit number out of their roll.  the other partner rolls and makes another double digit number. they either add or subtract them--great for a double digit addition and subtraction (with regrouping and borrowing, obviously, based on the rolls!) review!

 science alive!

a fun project adapted from pinterest:
math slap jack! they cut apart a bunch of numbers i print off (students are grouped in two's). then, i give an addition or subtraction problem, they figure it out and slap the number, trying to beat their partner. i also did this with 10 more and 10 less as well as 1 more and 1 less for them to do mentally, which was a great review as well!

coming tomorrow:
gender reveal cupcakes and math graphing activity for them to guess what gender the baby is!
